Aftermath of Kano Central Mosque, one week after blasts.

THE Kano Central Mosque which was
rocked by triple bomb blasts last
Friday that resulted in the killing of
over 100 Muslim worshippers and 150
others injured yesterday witnessed
unprecedented crowd who converged
in their thousands to observe the
Friday Juma’at prayers and also
honour the seven days prayer for the
repose of the souls of those that were
killed by the insurgents.
This reporter who monitored the
prayer at the oldest Mosque in Kano
reports that the Emir of Kano, Sarki
Muhammad Sanusi 11 personally led
prayers at the mosque yesterday.
Malam Umar Doguwa who spoke to
our reporter after observing the
prayers said he was not apprehensive
while in the mosque, adding that, “I
felt at home while praying to Allah to
expose those behind the attack on our
mosque and several other attacks on
innocent Nigerians.
“I have the belief that very soon, their
end will come since they have brought
the unholy war to the very domain of
Allah. All muslim faithful who
gathered here today did so without
fear or favour because we believe that
Allah is with us and will continue to
guide and protect us.”
However, heavy security was
witnessed around the Central Mosque,
just as other mosques within the
metropolis were heavily guarded and
people going in and out thoroughly
frisked. Vehicles were not allowed to
park close to the mosques, just as
human traffic was strictly monitored
as worshippers were not allowed to
gain entrance inside the mosques with
objects. Another worshipper, Alhaji
Hassan Idris told our reporter that he
decided to worship at the mosque in
order to express his grievances over
the tragic loss of his loved ones, and
to send a message to the perpetrators
that they cannot stop him from
practising Islam.
