The Federal Roads Safely Corps,
Ota Unit in Ogun State, has decried
the activities of street urchins
popularly known as ‘Area Boys’ in
the area.
Unit Commander of FRSC, Mr.
Sunday Omafu, told the News
Agency of Nigeria in Sango-Ota on
Thursday that the hoodlums were
obstructing the free flow of traffic
in Sango and its environs.
According to Omafu, the
miscreants are preventing the
personnel of the corps from
enforcing traffic laws in the area.
“Anytime the FRSC is directing
drivers, especially the commercial
bus drivers, the area boys believe
that the FRSC officials are
preventing them from collecting
their money,” he said.
He added that the unit would
embark on aggressive public
enlightenment to involve officials
of the National Union of Road
Transport Workers in the state in
order to address the challenge.
“We shall continue to enlighten
them both at the motor parks and
at the bus stops on the need for
free flow of traffic,” he said.
The unit commander alleged that
the area boys were hiding under
the operation of the NURTW to
obstruct traffic.
